The Faces Behind Exceptional Spaces

Arlene Kessler

Arlene Kessler, Founder

Vision, determination, and entrepreneurship have guided Step Up Interiors from the very beginning. Before founding Step Up Interiors, Arlene established Office Design and Supply in Sarasota, Florida, during the 1970s. After successfully selling that business, she relocated to North Carolina and founded Step Up Interiors in 1992. Today, Arlene remains actively involved in the company she built and continues to provide guidance and leadership. Outside of work, she is an avid gardener.

Ryan Prentice

Ryan Prentice, Principal – Sales

Relationships are at the heart of Ryan's approach. Arlene's son, Ryan, joined the family business in the 1990s after graduating from Appalachian State University. Over the years, he has built long-term relationships with schools, government agencies, and healthcare facilities throughout the Charlotte metro area.

Where Creativity Meets Practicality

Known for his responsiveness, creativity, and attention to detail, Ryan helps clients find practical and innovative workspace solutions. His customers value his consistent communication and his willingness to go above and beyond to ensure every project is successful. When he's away from work, Ryan enjoys coastal fishing and boating.

Drew Prentice

Drew Prentice, Principal – Operations

Drew brings extensive financial and operational leadership experience to Step Up Interiors. Joining the business full-time in 2025, Drew previously served as Chief Financial Officer for Bedrock in Detroit, Michigan, a real estate development company owned by Dan Gilbert that has invested $7.5 billion across 140 properties in Detroit and Cleveland.

Where Financial Acumen Meets Strategic Vision

Earlier in his career, Drew served as Chief Accounting Officer for two Initial Public Offerings, including Empire State Realty Trust (NYSE: ESRT), owner of the iconic Empire State Building, and Cogdell Spencer (NYSE: CSA), a healthcare real estate company headquartered in Charlotte. His operational expertise, financial leadership, and strategic perspective help support the continued growth of Step Up Interiors.
